Patient Surveys

The full results of this year’s survey are available to view here: Portesham Patient Survey 2013 results, or you can look at our Action Plan 2013 (which also gives an update on last year’s action plan).

Most of the responses were broadly in line with the results of the 2012 survey.  We were particularly pleased that last year’s changes to our telephone system seem to have made it easier for you to get through to us on the phone, especially first thing in the morning (three-quarters of respondents now find it “extremely easy” to get through on the phone and the remaining quarter find it “moderately easy”).

The survey showed that some patients were unaware of some of our services.  Did you know, for example, that:

  • you can ask to speak to a doctor by telephone (ring us late morning or early afternoon and you may be put straight through to the doctor, or the duty doctor will return your call later in the afternoon).
  • you can order your repeat medications online, and also book routine doctor and nurse appointments, using SystmOnline – follow the link from our homepage for details of how to register.
  • we can treat many minor injuries here in the surgery, including assessing soft tissue injuries, dressing minor burns and stitching minor cuts.

We are happy to say that the survey respondents rated our staff highly, with 95% rating our GPs and receptionists as either “excellent” or “very good”, and 100% rating the practice nurses and dispensary staff as either “excellent” or “very good”.

With the help of the Patient Feedback Group we have identified areas for improvement (see our Action Plan): these include finishing the redecorating programme and de-cluttering the waiting room, and wearing our name badges!

Overall our service is rated highly with 90% giving us either 9 out of 10 or a perfect 10/10.

Many thanks to those in the Patient Feedback Group who helped to devise the questionnaire and to the patients who completed it.  Next year we would like an even broader range of patients to take part in the Feedback Group and to complete the survey, so do please give us your name and email if you are able to help.  See here for more details.
